Dev.to PSE – How it Works?

Dev.to is an open-source community platform where developers write articles, share projects, and build their professional profile. Each member has a public profile page with a bio, skills, and location — making it a valuable sourcing target for technical recruiters.

How is this PSE/CSE built?

This CSE is built on two layers:

• An X-Ray of dev.to — site:dev.to — to index only content from the platform
• A permanent restriction filter on “join on” to surface only profile pages, filtering out articles and tags

With Google PSE/CSE, we can query structured data directly from Google’s index — going beyond simple keyword search.

Which advanced operators can we use?

Headline / Bio:

more:p:metatags-og_Description:keyword

more:p:metatags-og_Description:java*developer

This operator queries the Open Graph description tag — which on Dev.to corresponds to the member’s bio or headline.

Note on spaces: The more:p: operators do not support spaces. Use:

• * for AND (equivalent to a space in standard Google search)
• | for OR

Example: more:p:metatags-og_Description:java*developer finds profiles mentioning both “java” and “developer”
